Community Workforce Update – Johnson Outdoors

              Today, Southeast AlabamWorks, along with our partners Eufaula City Schools, Wallace Community College – Sparks Campus, and the Alabama Career Center, had the opportunity to speak about workforce development training and career opportunities for the children, grandchildren, and families of the employees of Johnson Outdoors in Eufaula, Alabama.

           Superintendent of Eufaula City Schools, Dr. Elisabeth Davis, discussed the exciting things going on in their school system. One being the Envision EU Technology 1:1 initiative for all grades. K-2 will be receiving iPads and grades 3 -12 will be provided Google Chromebooks. Each teacher will also be utilizing the Canvas Learning Management system, and every student will have access to Microsoft Office 365. Other programs at the elementary level include coding, raised agriculture beds, and Project Lead the Way activates in robotics, computer science, and medical detectives. Eufaula High School is also getting in on the act by offering credentialed career and technical programs such a Certified Nursing Assistant Program, along with AP Computer Science and Alabama Power Utility Lines Course. EHS also offers a variety of academic and career tech academies the students can enroll. Some of those include Academy of Communication and Media Arts, Agriscience Education, Health and Biomedical Science, and even Sports Recreation and Health.            Wallace Community College Recruiter, Anthony Jouvenas, spoke about all of the offerings that Wallace – Sparks offers. Wallace was recently ranked 1st in the nation for Student Success by the American Association of Community Colleges. The ranking is a very prestigious honor that Wallace holds in very high regard. Another thing that Wallace prides itself on is the ability to help anyone get to where they want to go, whether an academic transfer, health science field, career technical opportunities, and non-credit training. They offer an affordable education with high quality! For academic transfers, Wallace offers the STARS program that will guarantee credit transfer to public 4-year colleges and universities; at half the cost. Wallace has Health Science programs in License Practical Nursing (LPN), Phlebotomy Certificate, Associate Degree Nursing (RN), Medical Assisting, Radiologic Technology, Physical Therapy Assitant, and others. On the career technical side, Wallace offers a myriad of options including Air Conditioning and Refrigeration, Applied Engineering Technology, Business Technologies, and a host of other programs.            Our last speaker was Ann Blondheim from the Alabama Career Center – Eufaula. The opportunities and programs offered by the ACC will fit any age person looking for job opportunities, training in a career choice they desire, or a way to go back to school to further their education.
